Viewlogic to Integrate DSP Group's Cores into Hardware/Software Co-Development Tool

The DSP cores expand Viewlogic's Eaglei® library for hardware/software system design

Santa Clara, Calif. and Marlboro, Mass., October 14, 1997 -- DSP Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSPG) and Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:VIEW) today announced their intention to enter into a joint marketing agreement wherein Viewlogic will incorporate the DSP Group's PineDSPCore® and OakDSPCore® digital signal processor (DSP) cores into the Eaglei design automation tool set. The partnership enables system designers to use DSP Group's cores in concert with Viewlogic's latest hardware/software co-design technology for large scale system integration.

The PineDSPCore and the OakDSPCore are designed to engines for DSP-based applications specific ICs. They enable low power, high speed DSP processing with several levels of modularity in memory, size, and system interfaces, allowing efficient DSP base ASIC development.

The PineDSPCore is a 16-bit general purpose low power, low cost digital signal processor designed for speech processing, telecommunications and embedded control applications. Among the applications supported by the PineDSPCore are cordless telephony answering devices, disk controllers, modems, etc.

The OakDSPCore is a 16-bit general purpose high speed, low power, low voltage digital signal processor designed for audio and speech processing, high speed modems, and complex telecommunication. Among the applications supported by the OakDSPCore are: GSM, CDMA, TDMA, V.34 and 56K modems.

Viewlogic will add DSP Group's cores to its growing library of software models that are used with its Eaglei hardware/software co-development tool. With Eaglei, full system functions ¾ software application code, hardware drivers, diagnostics and the virtual hardware¾ can be verified as a whole. By using Eaglei's control cockpit, called the Virtual Product Console (VPC), actual application software can exercise the virtual hardware prototype, which is the hardware description in VHDL and/or Verilog. That, in turn, responds back to the software while operating at very high speeds of 5,000 instructions per second and higher.
