SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 19 -- DSP Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: DSPG - news) and HOTAS Ltd, today announced the availability of StarVox, a new Hands Free Car Kit for cellular phones. Utilizing DSP Group's leading edge voice recognition technology and HOTAS system design and manufacturing expertise, the StarVox is today's most advanced voice activated car kit for the cellular phone after market. Powered by DSP Group's advanced voice recognition chip, StarVox offers voice activated dialing of up to 64 names, true full duplex capabilities and up to 8 minutes of voice memo recording all wrapped up and managed by a user friendly human voice interface. StarVox currently supports cellular phone models by Ericsson and Nokia. Support will be extended to other manufacturers shortly.
Gideon Wertheizer, Corporate VP Marketing of DSP Group stated, ``We believe that the market for hands free car kits will grow rapidly as concerns for safety will affect legislative activity. DSP Group is committed to provide its voice recognition technology to market demand and trends as they develop.''
Wertheizer added, ``DSPG and HOTAS plan to cooperate on both the technology and marketing front of StarVox. By combining HOTAS's product design capabilities with DSPG's advanced technology, we plan to promote StarVox as the most advanced OEM solution for safe behind-the-wheel communication."
``We selected DSPG's technology after extensive evaluations of several alternatives,'' said Leon Eting President & CEO of HOTAS. ``We had three key requirements for the product: full duplex speakerphone capabilities, high quality voice recognition and voice recording.'' Mr. Eting continued: ``In order to develop a quality product we required very high recognition rates while using hands-free microphones and in extreme ambient noise environment. DSPG's chip met all of these requirements with recognition rates approaching 99% even when driving at very high speed or with an open window.''
HOTAS develops and markets voice activated products for safe driving. ``HOTAS'' is an aviation term, an acronym for ``Hands On Throttle And Stick.'' In fighter planes, instrument controls are placed on the throttle and stick to enable pilots to look straight ahead throughout the flight. In the same way, by using advanced voice recognition technologies, HOTAS's products provide in-vehicle hands free operation enabling drivers to concentrate on driving. HOTAS is also evaluating, together with Opel/GM, voice activation of navigation systems.
