Panasonic Line of Digital Phones First to Feature DSP Group's Range 900 Family of Chips
Oct. 8, 2001, Santa Clara, Calif. - DSP Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSPG), a global leader in the development and marketing of high-performance, cost-effective digital signal processing (DSP) cores and system-on-a-chip (SOC) products for corded, cordless, and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony applications, today unveiled a new family of DSP-based silicon solutions for a full range of digital cordless telephones.
The new Range 900 Family of chips include all necessary functions -- including caller ID, full-duplex SpeakerPhone® and TrueSpeech™ triple-rate CODER® speech compression -- to provide telephone equipment manufacturers with a full lineup of added-value digital cordless telephony applications.
The Range 900 Family consists of a universal, highly integrated radio chip, DS9RF21, along with three integrated DSP baseband controllers:
- DR36107 for versatile handsets
- DR36119 for Caller ID base sets
- DR36569 for fully featured base sets
"This is the first step in our long-term strategy, called Total Telephony Solutions™, to support all existing digital cordless standards," said Victor Koretsky, vice president, sales and marketing, at DSP Group. "With all the necessary technology already in hand, DSP Group intends to aggressively pursue a roadmap to wireless home-networking appliances."
The new Range 900 Family joins DSP Group's existing technologies and products -- such as its TrueSpeech™ triple-rate CODER® digital answering machine, true full-duplex SpeakerPhone®, FlexiSpeech™, voice recognition and speech synthesis -- that provide customers with end-to-end solutions for digital cordless telephones.
Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd. -- a subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (NYSE: MC), which is best known for its Panasonic brand -- is the first customer to incorporate DSP Group's Total Telephony Solutions in digital cordless phones. The new line of Kyushu Matsushita-manufactured Panasonic 900 MHz digital phones, introduced in the United States this summer, takes advantage of DSP Group's versatile and cost-effective integrated solutions and fills a market niche between low-cost analog cordless phones and the high-end, spread-spectrum, 2.4 GHz phones.
Price and Availability
DSP Group's Range 900 products are available now in small-footprint packages. Prices start below $10 for the Caller ID chip set.
